This extraordinary performance by Soumya Sarkar surpassed historical milestones. His innings marked the highest score by a Bangladeshi men's player in an ODI away from home. Moreover, it stands as the highest ODI score by a sub-continent player in New Zealand, breaking Sachin Tendulkar's record of 163* set in Christchurch in 2009.

Facing adversity after losing three wickets within the first 10 overs, Bangladesh's situation seemed precarious. Soumya Sarkar, however, persevered and formed a crucial partnership of 91 runs with wicket-keeper/batter Mushfiqur Rahim, who contributed 45 runs off 57 balls.

Despite Sarkar's outstanding innings, New Zealand ultimately emerged victorious in the match. Nevertheless, his innings not only showcased individual brilliance but also propelled Bangladesh to their highest ODI score in New Zealand, reaching a total of 291 runs.
