"India vs Australia World Cup Final: Head's Ton Steals the Show"
India
Australia's Travis Head showcased brilliance in the World Cup final against India in Ahmedabad on Sunday, steering his team closer to a record-extending sixth title. Facing a challenging situation at 47-3 while chasing a target of 241 against the unbeaten hosts, India, Head's left-handed century off 95 balls, adorned with 14 fours and a six, brought Australia to 185-3 in the 34th over.
In a thrilling encounter, star batsman Steve Smith fell early, bowled by Jasprit Bumrah for just four runs. Bumrah's deceptive slower ball left Smith lbw, marking a crucial breakthrough for India and sparking celebrations among the 130,000-strong crowd.
At the 10-over mark, Australia stood at 60-3, with opener Travis Head unbeaten on 19, and Marnus Labuschagne yet to get off the mark.
Earlier in the day, India, aiming for a third World Cup title and a second on home soil, were dismissed for 240 after being asked to bat first. Australia's Mitchell Starc claimed 3-55, and captain Pat Cummins conceded just 34 runs in his 10-over spell.
KL Rahul top-scored for India with 66, albeit with just one boundary in 107 balls. Virat Kohli contributed 54, and captain Rohit Sharma played a brisk innings of 47 off 31 balls, setting the tone in the powerplay with three sixes and four boundaries.
Despite Rohit's aggressive start, a spectacular running catch by Travis Head removed him from the crease, and an over later, Pat Cummins dismissed Shreyas Iyer, adding pressure to the hosts at 97-3 in 15 overs.
Australia's victory in the World Cup final adds another chapter to their remarkable year, following their triumph in the World Test Championship in June and retaining the Ashes. The cricketing world now awaits the crowning moment as Australia aims to secure their sixth one-day international World Cup title against India in Ahmedabad.
